We Don’t Waste
We Don't Waste envisions a future where good food will not be wasted and negatively impact the environment. Where food-insecure families and individuals can thrive without worrying about where their next meal will come from. And where excess food has an easy and direct line to communities in need.
THE MISSION: Feed people, not landfills.
FOOD RECOVERY
We Don't Waste was founded on a simple question: Why should businesses throw away perfectly good food while people in the community go hungry? Instead of letting it rot in a landfill, We Don't Waste recovers this food at no cost. The organization rescues quality unused food that's bound for landfills and redirects it to communities in need.
The organization collaborates with incredible local businesses-restaurants, venues, caterers, distributors, producers, and institutions-that share its vision. Currently, We Don't Waste partners with over 200 active food donors.
MOBILE FOOD MARKETS
In the Metro Denver area, there are approximately 50 food apartheids-neighborhoods that have been historically and presently discriminated against, where politics, racial injustice, and economic policy have shaped a landscape without access to affordable, fresh, and nutritious foods. People who live in these neighborhoods often rely on fast food and convenience stores for food, or they have to travel long distances to the closest grocery stores, which presents barriers for those without transportation or those who have mobility challenges.
In winter 2019, We Don't Waste began partnering with organizations located in food deserts by bringing a Mobile Food Market to their sites. Currently, We Don't Waste hosts eight Mobile Markets each month, serving thousands of people. These farmers market-style distributions provide fresh produce, lean proteins, and more to anyone in need, completely free of charge.
PARTNER DISTRIBUTION
We Don't Waste is guided by the belief that compassion strengthens communities. Motivated by its mission to support both the community and the environment, the organization provides quality food at no cost to nonprofit organizations serving individuals experiencing hunger.
