SOSA
SOSA (Safe From Online Sex Abuse) advocates for better and broader internet safety legislation, creates educational materials forminors and their caretakers, and partners withschools to raise awareness around the pervasivenessof online child sex abuse and exploitation.
THROUGH VARIOUS APPS AND PLATFORMS, THE INTERNET PROVIDES AVENUES TO EMOTIONALLY AND SEXUALLY ABUSE KIDS - VIA CONTROL, MANIPULATION, AND COERCION.
The widespread adoption of the internet by our society — with its 24/7 social media landscape and smartphones in every pocket — gives minors access to the entire world. This can be great for keeping in touch with friends and families, as well as for education, entertainment, and access to news and opportunities, but it hides a darker side. This same technology also provides perpetrators with unprecedented access and means to abuse children.
As their M.O., perpetrators operate under the guise of trust, emotional connection, andrelationship building — a process also known as grooming. Children are often unawarethe are being groomed because it can happen slowly and through deception. Minors areespecially vulnerable as they’re taught and coerced to hide this abuse from their familiesfor fear of shame and retribution.
SOSA IS A NON-PROFIT THAT RAISES AWARENESS AND COMBATS THE PERVASIVENESS OF ONLINE SEX ABUSE AND EXPLOITATION.
Their work supports abuse survivors, spearheads child abuse prevention initiatives, advocates for better internet, supports Internet Crimes Against Children task forces, aides law enforcement targeting perpetrators of internet crimes against children, and signal boosts the work of other organizations who strive to make a difference for kids all over the world.
They do that through:
1) Empathy-led education
2) Helping to create safer technology
3) Supporting law enforcement agencies that focus on internet crimes against children
4) Advocacy
5) Individualized education
